Physical Therapy

What is physical Therapy?

Physical Therapy encompasses many treatment interventions to address injury, impairment and loss of function in the body.  The goal is to restore function, reduce pain and educate the patient in an effort minimize further pain recurrence or injury.   Physical therapy may be recommended after surgery, following a car accident, for repetitive strain injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome, or even chronic low back pain.

What does a physical Therapist do?

Physical therapists are healthcare professionals who diagnose and treat individuals of all ages, who have medical problems or other health-related conditions, illnesses, or injuries that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities.   A physical therapist will perform a thorough evaluation of you and implement an individualized treatment plan.  Depending on your diagnosis, your therapist will enable you to regain mobility, strength, endurance and function so you may return to the lifestyle you love.  This can include soft tissue mobilization, joint mobilization, exercises and modalities such as ultrasound, heat, or electrical stimulation to reduce pain.  At APEX we also emphasize patient education regarding activity modification, safe postures and body mechanics.

Physical therapists work with individuals to prevent the loss of mobility before it occurs by developing fitness and wellness-oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyles, providing services to individuals and populations to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and functional ability throughout the lifespan. This includes providing services in circumstances where movement and function are threatened by aging, injury, disease or environmental factors. Functional movement is central to what it means to be healthy.  At APEX, all treatment plans are administered by licensed physical therapists in an effort to maximize patient recovery.
